Frustration among some Pike River families

From Morning Report, 8:55 am on 2 October 2020

There is frustration among some families of Pike River, who are calling for better technology to be used in the recovery mission.

The operation at the mine is continuing to make progress, with workers now nearly 1980m in.

Bernie Monk, who lost his son in the mine blast, is urging the Pike River Recovery Agency to use higher standard measuring equipment, which he says can provide more reliable results.

November marks a decade since the mining disaster killed 29 men.

The recovery agency provided an update on the progress on Thursday.

Anan Zaki was at the briefing in Christchurch, and filed this report.
