Republican senators distance themselves from Trump after debate

From Morning Report, 7:44 am on 2 October 2020

Republican Senators have distanced themselves from Donald Trump after he failed to condemn white supremacy again.

Following Trump's comments at the first presidential debate - where he told the far-right group, The Proud Boys, to quote 'Stand down and Stand by' - he told reporters at the White House that he didn't know who The Proud Boys were.

Trump then tried to rewrite his contentious comments but was unable to say the words 'white supremacy' despite multiple nudges by reporters.

This is the fallout from just one debate, will there be another?
