EU takes legal action against UK over latest Brexit legislation

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 2 October 2020

The European Union has taken legal action against the UK over a breach in their Brexit negotiations.

On Tuesday night, the British government passed the latest piece of Brexit legislation, called the Internal Market Bill.

This draft bill gives ministers the power to rewrite elements of the Brexit deal agreed with the EU and it breaks international law.

The European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, said the UK had ignored calls to amend the bill and this had triggered a legal process.
