Serious Fraud Office files charges after NZ First Foundation probe

From Morning Report, 7:10 am on 30 September 2020

The New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters is crying foul over the way his party has been treated by the Serious Fraud Office less than three weeks out from the election.

That's despite the SFO saying neither of the two people charged after the investigation into the New Zealand First Foundation is a Minister, sitting MP, candidate, or current party member.

Peters says that's a relief but he is not happy with the SFO.

The two people charged can't be named or identified.

New Zealand First went to court to try to stop the SFO from announcing the outcome of its investigation before the election - but failed.

Now Peters is threatening legal action against the office.

He claims he's been hard done by and the SFO is not being even-handed.
