Work to fix a decade-long flooding problem in Christchurch's east is being fast tracked to start next year.
Pages Road - a main thoroughfare to New Brighton - often floods when it rains, creating havoc for both drivers and pedestrians.
One frustrated councillor actually dug a trench himself - solving the problem overnight.
Now the council has approved funding for a more permanent solution.
