An $8 million hunt is on for a deadly mineral beneath Auckland which could complicate any proposal to build a tunnel under the Waitematā Harbour.
The Transport Agency has just finished a business case for another crossing and says a tunnel is the most likely option.
The cancer-causing erionite is worse than asbestos but less common and could pose issues for any building in the city.
