Debate over compulsory te reo in schools continues nearly 50 years after Māori Language Petition

Nearly 50 years on - the activists who led the historic 1972 Māori Language Petition are still fighting for te reo to be compulsory in schools. 

It's a debate that continues to divide the political spectrum and a policy no government has been willing to adopt. 

But for ex-members of Ngā Tamatoa the dream is still alive
