Alexander Lukashenko meets with Vladimir Putin

In a bid to save his embattled presidency, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has met with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

The meeting between the two men is took place in the Black sea resort of Sochi, where Mr Putin has a house. Thousands continue to demonstrate across Belarus, demanding that Lukashenko leave office following a disputed election in August.

The UN's Human Rights Chief, Michelle Bachelet has said the Belarusian government has committed human rights violations in its response to the protests.
