Immigration New Zealand has relaxed border regulations for resident visa holders who are stuck overseas.
There was also good news for some New Zealanders who have partners stranded offshore that have been unable to return because they weren't exempt.
Christchurch man Liam Upson-Maguire has spent more than half a year apart from his partner Molly.
She travelled to England to be with her sick father, who died in February.
The pair were thrilled to learn Molly can now return home.
