The former Otago, Highlanders and All Blacks coach Laurie Mains admits he's a little suprised that Aaron Mauger is leaving the franchise.
Mauger has been in charge the last three years but in a release the Highlanders and New Zealand Rugby said with his contract coming to an end, he would not be retained in the role.
Under his guidance the Highlanders made the Super Rugby play-offs in 2018 and 2019 and finished fourth this year in Super Rugby Aotearoa.
Mains says Mauger had done a good job.
