No money to hire staff for specialist childrens' facilities at Christchurch hospital

From Morning Report, 6:36 am on 3 September 2020

New and better better emergency and acute care of children at Christchurch Hospital is not going to happen because there's no money to hire people to staff its new facilities.

The acting clinical director of the emergency department Dr Mark Gilbert told our reporter Phil Pennington he is not going to get the 15 extra staff he needs to provide care for children separately.

That means young patients will continue to be treated alongside adults.
