The number of people on a benefit shot up by almost 12 percent in April this year, the biggest rise in the past 24 years and nearly double the next largest increase.
The figures are in a report by the Ministry of Social Development assessing the impact of Covid-19 on beneficiaries and comparing it with recent economic downturns.
