Wellington's skyline was lit up last night by a huge house fire in the city centre.
Police say they learned of a blaze ripping through a two storey heritage building on Abel Smith St shortly after 6am.
Neighbours say the house, which was formerly home to Wellington's anarchist movement, had been unoccupied for some time but the fire service could not confirm this morning if anybody had been inside the building at the time of the fire.
