Thousands of home owners are slipping behind on their mortgages, with almost 250,000 payments missed since April.
Reserve Bank data shows 10, 905 homeowners were in arrears at the end of the first week of August.
The defaults are in addition to the near 84,000 mortgage deferral requests lodged since the end of March.
