Covid-19: More than 1500 went overseas and then back to NZ after virus took hold

Dozens of New Zealanders have been on tropical holidays since the country's nationwide lockdown - including some intrepid travellers who left while the team of five million stayed home.

They're among more than 1500 people who travelled overseas then returned to the country between the 20 March - a few days before the Alert Level 4 and 1 July.

Official figures provided to RNZ show of those who went on overseas holidays, more than half travelled to Pacific islands.
