Stephen Stone lodges appeal against murder convictions

From Morning Report, 7:34 am on 19 August 2020

A man labelled one of New Zealand's most notorious killers has lodged an appeal against his murder convictions, which his team of high profile justice campaigners claims is a gross miscarriage of justice.

Lawyers and private investigators working for Stephen Stone have confirmed to RNZ that they have filed papers in the Court of Appeal.

In 1999 Stone was found guilty of murdering Deane Fuller-Sandys and Leah Stephens ten years earlier.

RNZ investigative journalist Guyon Espiner has the story and speaks to Susie Ferguson.
