Election 2020: Electoral commission promises Māori roll voters will get correct ballot papers

From Morning Report, 6:44 am on 19 August 2020

The Electoral Commission is assuring Māori voters they will get the correct ballot papers at voting booth's this election.

It received 40 complaints from Māori last election about poor voting services, including those on the Māori roll being given the wrong voting forms which led to their vote being disqualified.

Some voting booths reportedly didn't even have a Māori roll and first time Māori voters weren't given an option to choose which roll to enrol on, which is their right.

The chief electoral officer Alicia Wright told RNZ reporter Meriana Johnsen they'd made changes this year to address these issues.
