Covid-19: QR codes must be displayed from today

From Morning Report, 6:38 am on 19 August 2020

The government's yellow and white QR code posters will become mandatory of all businesses from noon today, so customers can scan in with their phones for contact tracing.

The Ministry of Health says nearly 1.5 million people were using its contact tracing app by yesterday afternoon and more than 234,000 QR posters have been generated.

It says it's taking a pragmatic approach to businesses that don't meet its deadline but continued breaches could incurr court fines of up to $1000.

In Tauranga, app user Adam Hughes told RNZ reporter Katie Todd he'd been unable to find QR codes at some of the main places he expected them to be.

He's a Meals on Wheels driver who regularly visits retirement villages.
