Covid-19: WorkSafe investigating managed isolation and quarantine

From Morning Report, 7:50 am on 18 August 2020

WorkSafe is stepping in to investigate if quarantine hotels are keeping their staff safe.

This comes after the debacle over the lack of testing of frontline border staff for the virus.

Worksafe is beginning assessments but initially only by inspectors on the phone, not in person.

Unions have been pressuring Worksafe to step in, after its slow response to physical distancing breaches at fastfood restaurants under the earlier nationwide Alert Level 3.

Gerard Hehir is national secretary of the Unite Union which represents hotel workers such as front of house and cleaners.
