Covid-19: Grant Robertson on Covid-19 political response

From Morning Report, 7:09 am on 13 August 2020

Covid-19 could have been spreading in Auckland for weeks before the latest community outbreak was discovered.

How a man contracted the virus, before passing it onto family members, remains a mystery. Four family members were confirmed as infected and yesterday a further four probable cases were also linked to the family.

They all have no known connection to the country's border - the only place experts believe covid could have arrived.

As the country's health officials work desperately to tackle the Covid 19 outbreak, politicians are in a war of words.

The National Party says it should be more closely involved in decision-making given it's so close to the election.

But the Prime Minister says she and her Cabinet have every right to govern up until September 19.

As to the date of the election, National and New Zealand First are angling for it to be moved to at least November.

Grant Robertson is Minister of Finance.
