Covid-19: Auckland headed back to Alert Level 3

From Morning Report, 6:39 am on 12 August 2020

Auckland will be going into Alert Level 3 restrictions for three days from midday on Wednesday after four cases of community transmission of Covid-19 from the same family were confirmed yesterday.

The rest of the country will be operating under Alert Level 2 - these restrictions last until Friday evening, for now.

The announcement was made last night in a special news conference just after 9.15 on Tuesday night. The time will be used to determine where the infections came from, and whether there is an outbreak in Auckland.

The Director-General of health, Ashley Bloomfield, said the health system is well prepared to tackle an outbreak in the community.
