As the wage subsidy scheme starts to wind down, the Finance Minister Grant Robertson says he doesn't believe there'll be a massive spike in job losses as a result.
About 1.7 million employees have received the wage subsidy since it began in early June - from 1 September no further applications are allowed.
The Labour Party launched its campaign at the weekend with a $300 million jobs plan.
Robertson told RNZ political editor Jane Patterson the businesses who really needed the wage subsidy applied at the very beginning and since the lockdown unemployment numbers have fluctuated from week to week.
