Wellington City Council is proposing a ban on new pokie machines in the city.
Over a $100,000 are spent on the class four machines in the capital every day, but some say it causes significant social harm.
Those who want to keep them point to their social benefits, with the proceeds from the machines going to grants to sports teams, arts clubs and communities.
