Gymnastics culture comes under scrutiny

From Morning Report, 6:17 am on 6 August 2020

The culture of gymnastics in New Zealand will come under scrutiny during a wide-ranging review into the sport's governing body.

A raft of allegations have emerged over the past week about gymnasts suffering mental and physical abuse.

Sport integrity expert David Howman has been called on to lead an independent review into Gymnastics New Zealand's policies, procedures and remedies concerning complaints, both past and present.

Gymnastics New Zealand chief executive officer Tony Compier says the organisation is open to scrutiny and acknowledges that the culture of the organisation as a whole needs to be looked at.
