Melbourne goes into lockdown similar to NZ Level 4

From Morning Report, 6:39 am on 3 August 2020

Melbourne is spending its first night under curfew, which will end at 7am Monday NZT.

Under the "stage four" lockdown, Melbourne residents will only be allowed to shop and exercise within five kiometres of their home.

The new regime means schools will move to distance learning, and many businesses will be forced to reduce their activity or close entirely.

More details on this will be announced later today. In his announcement of the new restrictions, Victorian premier Daniel Andrews pointed to the hundreds of people who are contracting Covid-19 from unknown sources.

Andrews went on to outline the new restrictions for Melbourne - many of which will be familiar to those who experienced life under New Zealand's Alert Level 4.
