Andrew Little on WorkSafe

From Morning Report, 8:10 am on 28 July 2020

Andrew Little says he has spoken to WorkSafe about a public perception it has not been prosecuting enough cases.

Little was speaking to Morning Report in the wake of a family coming forward to share their pain after WorkSafe declined to prosecute in their case.

It only began the investigation more than nine months after the March 2018 crash when a truck rear-ended the family of four's car on the Desert Road.

WorkSafe twice declined to prosecute the truck company, despite the Coroner saying it appeared laws had been breached and giving it extra time to do it.

The family met Little as Justice Minister last year to plead with him - helped by their local National MP David Bennett.

Little told Corin Dann he backs WorkSafe, but he has spoken to it about a "public perception" it isn't doing enough.
