Hastings human trafficker to be sentenced today

The first person ever to be convicted of both human trafficking and slavery in New Zealand will be sentenced in Napier today.

For nearly two decades, Joseph Auga Matamata brought people from Samoa over to Hastings, selling them a better life.

But instead, he didn't pay them for their work and beat them if they refused to follow his rules.
