Annual baby deaths twice the road toll

Every year the number of babies that are stillborn or die within a month of birth is twice the country's road toll.

That stark number - the perinatal and neonatal mortality statistics - sits at around 600 babies per year in New Zealand and is the subject of a new RNZ podcast, The Unthinkable.
