NZ horticulture industry on worker exploitation

New Zealand's horticulture and fruit picking industry says it needs to take decisive action to make sure exploitation's not rife in its workforce.

Joseph Matamata will be sentenced at the Napier High Court this morning.

He is the first person in New Zealand to be charged with both human trafficking and slavery, after nearly two decades of wrongdoing in Hastings.

New Zealand Apples and Pears business development manager, Gary Jones, told RNZ reporter Tom Kitchin what the conviction means for the industry.
