Imagine being stuck on the other side of the world, where flights home cost $3000, and with just a week until your visa is set to expire, you've heard nothing on whether it can be extended again.
It's the predicament facing potentially thousands of UK-based Kiwis, who are now racing to get back to New Zealand before their visa runs out.
The UK's Home Office granted all overseas nationals an extension to their visas until July 31st, but despite the added months, many have found it near impossible to get back home.
No Government Minister was available to give assurances this morning.
In a statement, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said they are aware of the visas expiring, but they don't know how many New Zealanders are affected.
They say: "Any New Zealander who has no possibility of extending their visa beyond 31 July is discouraged from remaining in the UK after their visa has expired, as this may have implications for any future travel plans.
"Our High Commission in the UK has raised the visa status of affected New Zealanders with the Home Office to ensure the situation has been brought to their attention.
"We encourage New Zealanders wanting to return to New Zealand to continue to work with airlines and travel agents direct to assess their options.
"We understand that this is a challenging, complex and quickly evolving situation and anyone who is in this situation and is concerned is welcome to contact the High Commission for further assistance."
