National Party leadership: Commentator on Judith Collins takeover

From Morning Report, 8:21 am on 15 July 2020

National has a new leadership team after Todd Muller's unexpected resignation yesterday.

Judith Collins says she feels privileged to have been chosen to lead the National Party.

Last night at an emergency caucus meeting at Parliament the seasoned National MP was elected to the party's top job and Brownlee as her deputy.

It comes after Muller resigned in a shock move yesterday morning, citing health problems.

Collins told last night's news conference her focus now will be on helping rebuild and deal with the economic and jobs crisis by getting Kiwis back to work.
