Temporary workers want holiday visas extended through apple harvest

Foreign backpackers and the apple industry are teaming up to persuade the Minister of Immigration to extend holiday visas through the spring harvest season.

There are currently 25,000 visitors on such visas and many want to stay here as the pandemic rages in the rest of the world.

They been excluded from the six month extension granted to three classes of skilled and sponsored work visas, as well as visas for up to nearly 14,500 seasonal workers.
