RSA holding services outside memorial due to structural fears

From Morning Report, 8:24 am on 7 July 2020

The RSA have resorted to holding services outside the National War Memorial due to the concerns the Carillon tower will collapse during an earthquake.

As RNZ has been reporting, engineering reports show the bell frame could fail and tonnes of bells could fall and kill anyone inside.

The RSA have used the tower and adjoining Hall of Memories to host veteran services for decades.

Now they face an extended delay as repairs to the tower are investigated.

National President of the RSA BJ Clark speaks to Kim Hill.
