Temporary residents fight to keep jobs as visas expire

From Morning Report, 8:14 am on 6 July 2020

Thousands of temporary residents are fighting to keep their jobs with their visas set to expire en masse.

Anyone in the country with an expired work, student, visitor, limited or interim visa, with an expiration date between 2 April and 9 July has until 25 September to renew it.

Temporary residents who were overseas when their visas expired, haven't been granted an automatic extension and will also need to reapply for their jobs.

Immigration isn't renewing or issuing any new visas until it is satisfied there are no citizens or permanent residents available to do an applicant's job.

RNZ business reporter Nona Pelletier has this report.
