Justice system struggling with massive jury trial backlog

Defendants and lawyers face months of stressful delays as courts grapple with a mounting jury trial backlog caused by Covid-19.

The Chief Justice was forced to suspend hearings in March as the country braced for the nationwide lockdown.

Jury trials will resume at the end of July but lawyers say the 18-week hiatus has crushed an already-broken system.
