Forest and Bird pleased with govt waterways pledge

From Morning Report, 6:52 am on 6 July 2020

Forest and Bird says the government's pledge to clean up the country's waterways is putting the environment at the heart of its recovery to Covid-19.

The Labour Party says the $162 million package would create 2000 new jobs through projects that would help restore wetlands, rivers and streams and regenerate native bush and pest control.

The organisation's freshwater advocate Tom Kay told RNZ reporter Catherine Hutton the country's rivers and lakes are at breaking point.
