DOC under fire in high court battle over tahr populations

From Morning Report, 8:50 am on 30 June 2020

The Department of Conservation has been caught in the crossfire as hunters and conservationists fight over DOC's proposed Tahr cull programme.

On Friday the Tahr Foundation filed a High Court injunction to halt the Department's cull planned to begin tomorrow.

They believe hunters have not been consulted about a plan that proposes culls at three times the level of previous years.

Earlier this year New Zealand Forest and Bird sought a high court declaration claiming the Department's plan was illegal.

They believe the plan does not go far enough.

NZ Tahr Foundation Spokesperson Willie Duley and Forest and Bird Canterbury West Coast Regional Manager Nicky Snoyink speak to Corin Dann.
