Just over 5000 skiers took to the slopes this weekend for the opening of the Queenstown ski fields.
Cardrona Alpine Resort is forecasting numbers down by almost half from normal this year but spirits remained high after a visit from the Prime Minister who pledged $85 million to boost the local economy.
