Community leaders hopeful gang arrests will reassure public

From Morning Report, 7:38 am on 24 June 2020

Community leaders in Bay of Plenty hope police raids targeting the Mongols motorbike gang will reassure the public they are safe after months of escalating tensions.

Ten people including the gang's senior leaders were arrested in yesterday's raids and police seized military style assault weapons, AK47s as well as molotov cocktails, vehicles, drugs and cash.

Tauranga's mayor and a local iwi leader say more must be done to crack down on the root cause of the tensions: methamphetamine.
