Coronavirus: National Party MP blasts passenger arrival cards

From Morning Report, 6:45 am on 20 May 2020

A National MP says the passenger arrival card used at airports to screen for Covid-19 is flawed and must be redone.

The cards in use since 20 March list symptoms of fever, cough and difficulty breathing - but not a sore throat which almost half of infected people have.

The Health Ministry in a statement has not revealed why a sore throat was left off, but says it will review the symptoms listed when the cards are next reprinted.

National MP Dr Shane Reti says border control is too important to get it wrong like this.

In a statement to RNZ the Health Ministry says in the face to face assessment now in place for returned travellers they are asked if they have a 'cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, any cold or flu type symptom, or loss of sense of smell'.
