About 60,000 foreign students made it into New Zealand before the pandemic disrupted international travel and now they are stuck thousands of kilometres from their home countries.
They told RNZ education correspondent John Gerritsen they are worried about their families, but also about passing their courses and surviving the lockdown without work.
