Coronavirus: Trump backs off on plans to quarantine New York

From Morning Report, 8:09 am on 30 March 2020

US President Donald Trump has backtracked on his initial plan to quarantine New York because of the coronavirus.

Over the weekend the President said he might impose a quarantine on New York, and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut, to slow the spread of Covid-19.

The US has 125,000 confirmerd cases of the virus, almost half of those are in New York, which has also recorded 672 deaths.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo described Trump's proposal as preposterous.

Trump now says quarantining New York "will not be necessary".
