Covid-19: Auckland Airport in trading halt, markets in turmoil

Fears of a global recession have intensified after President Donald Trump announced the US will suspend all travel from Europe for 30 days starting midnight on Friday.

The travel restrictions do not apply to the UK, which has around 460 cases of the virus.

The announcement unleashed new shockwaves across the global economy Asian markets fell sharply, as did US and European markets.

The ban is expected to have significant economic effects on the US economy, as well as on the already-suffering airline industry worldwide.

In New Zealand, Auckland Airport has placed itself in a trading halt.
