From Morning Report, 8:17 am on 9 March 2020

The former Labour minister and Auckland mayoral candidate, John Tamihere, will go head to head with the Minister for Whānau Ora Peeni Henare this election in the Tamaki Makarau seat.

Tamihere confirmed his candidacy at the Mataatua Marae in Māngere on Saturday, in front of Māori Party founders Dame Tariana Turia and Sir Pita Sharples.

The 61-year-old has held Tāmaki Makaurau before as a Labour MP, but lost it in 2005 to the Māori Party.

The Green Party co-leader, Marama Davidson, is also standing in the seat.
