A week of wild weather on the South Island's West Coast has meant a late route change for the Coast to Coast multi-sport race which began today.
A 243 kilometre haul from Kumara Beach to New Brighton Beach in Christchurch, the annual event has long pushed people to their mental and physical limits.
Heavy rain earlier this week put this year's event, quite literally, under a cloud.
