Western BOP Mayor calls for more police patrols after shootings

From Morning Report, 8:42 am on 29 January 2020

A local leader says more frequent police patrols in Western Bay of Plenty will ease the community's fears after two shootings yesterday.

The police say a large number of shots were fired at a house in the Tauranga suburb of Hai-rini early yesterday morning and shots were also fired at house in Te Puke yesterday afternoon.

The deputy mayor for Western Bay of Plenty, John Scrimgeour, says the police have told him Te Puke shooting was perpetrated by one of the newer gangs to the area.

He spoke to RNZ reporter Amy Williams.
