Ardern marks Holocaust Remembrance Day

From Morning Report, 6:41 am on 28 January 2020

The Prime Minister has paid tribute to the millions who died during the Holocaust, declaring that anti-semitism has no place in the world.

Jacinda Ardern delivered the message at the Mount Eden War Memorial in Auckland last night to mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The Government has been criticised in recent days for failing to send any representative to the Fifth World Holocaust Forum in Israel, with the Opposition calling it disgraceful.

Speaking last night, Ms Ardern acknowledged the immeasurable loss of life and pain experienced by the Jewish community around the world.

She told those gathered that hate speech in the name of nationalism or other causes was not welcome in New Zealand.
