Impeachment trial of Donald Trump starting in the US Senate

From Morning Report, 7:20 am on 22 January 2020

The impeachment trial of US President Donald Trump is about to start in the US Senate.

Trump is charged with abusing his office by pressing Ukraine to investigate a political rival, and obstructing Congress. It's only the third time in history that a US president has faced charges of high crimes and misdemeanors.

The White House has urged the Senate to swiftly reject the charges and acquit Trump.
