Donald Trump impeachment proceedings head to senate

From Morning Report, 8:24 am on 20 December 2019

Donald Trump has become the third US president in history to be impeached by the House of Representatives.

The House voted on two charges - that the president had abused his power and that he had obstructed Congress. Nearly all Democrats voted for the charges and every Republican against.

The impeachment proceedings now shift to the Senate, where a trial is expected in January.
