Government offers spectrum to Māori for the first time

From Morning Report, 7:21 am on 16 December 2019

For the first time ever, the government is going to allocate radio spectrum to Māori.

The Broadcasting, Communications and Digital Media Minister, Kris Faafoi, has announced he'll be making spectrum available in 2020 to help develop 5G networks.

The rights to spectrum will only be short-term to 2022, before the next long-term rights go on offer.

RNZ Māori news correspondent Leigh-Marama McLachlan reports.
